Earlier in 2018, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. had announced that they were reducing the old iPhone’s performances through updates so that the phone could stay in top condition and function properly, which now when we see this lawsuit is the exact opposite of what he said. The truth was that he wanted to increase the declined iPhone sales and get a good hold on the smartphone market. With his statement he and the company got a lot of hate and negative comments from the users as they felt cheated by the company. And this time again it was charged by disabling the iPhone charger, so that people would buy more Apple products. ‘This accessory may not be supported’, this is the message an iPhone user receives if he becomes a part of this alleged attempt by Apple to make the user buy a new iPhone or a new Apple charger. In both the cases the user loses and the company wins.
According to a MacRumors report, Monica Emerson who is a California resident was the one who filed a complaint against Apple via a law firm this week. In the lawsuit, Apple is accused of releasing a new iOS update in 2016 which were “specifically designed and programmed to reject old iPhone chargers from properly charging the iPhones.” And it is true, Apple did push out an iOS update named version 10.1.1 in November of 2016. And even at that time reports had come out that iPhones are not supporting third-party accessories after the update. The lawsuit has also asked Apple to stop this practice while also notifying all of the affected iPhone users about the deceptive practice and “engage in corrective advertising” in order to rectify its malpractice. This is not the first time Apple is in headlines for all the bad reasons. The malpractice of the company against the users might just turn against them and they may lose their customers and user base on a whole. And the company which is known for its innovation and quality of products may just become the exact opposite.
