Following this, we got a look at Huawei’s Mate X smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. Other than this, smartphone makers like Xiaomi, LG, Lenovo and Motorola are also said to be working on their own foldable phones. And now, a report has surfaced on Bloomberg that says that Samsung is working on two other foldable phones, which will both sport a design that is very different from that of Galaxy Fold. According to the report, unlike Samsung Galaxy Fold that has a tablet-sized screen that can be folded into a candybar phone, one among the new smartphones that the South Korean technology giant is working on comes with a display that wraps around the outside of the device. So, we can expect the design of the smartphone to be something like Huawei Mate X’s.
The other device that Samsung is working on is said to be a vertically-oriented clamshell phone that will sport a smaller external display. We should mention that the latter sounds like the upcoming revamped Motorola RAZR smartphone, that will come with a normal sized display that can be folded into a palm-sized device. It is also worth noticing that Apple’s patent for its foldable device that recently surfaced online also appeared to be similar to this. Coming back to Samsung, the South Korean technology giant will reportedly launch the clamshell phone in late 2019 or early 2020, and the Mate-X like device will launch only after that. Speaking of Samsung Galaxy Fold, it is all set to release in April this year. However, reports suggest that Samsung is still working on the device’s durability, mainly because a visible crease can be seen on the screen that has become an area of concern for the company. The report also quoted a person familiar with the matter saying that Samsung is considering to offer free screen replacements to customers.
