As of now, the marketing name of Xiaomi‘s foldable phone has not been revealed, but considering that the device is still a prototype, it is fully acceptable. Wang Teng Thomas, the Head of Product Development at Xiaomi took to Weibo to speak about the upcoming foldable smartphone. Thomas posted a video of the device and said that the company is trying to sort out some issues related to the foldable phone. In the video, he is first seen using the device as a tablet and then folds it into a phone. It is worth noticing that Xiaomi’s foldable phone folds outwards twice. So there is reportedly a fold on each side. Basically, when the device is folded into a phone, it is literally all screen. Thomas also added in his post that making a foldable phone that folds outwards is more difficult in comparison to the one that folds inwards. And considering that Xiaomi’s phone folds outwards twice, it leads to double the number of complications.
That’s not all. When a follower asked him what kind of issues was the Chinese smartphone brand facing with its upcoming device, Thomas replied that the company is battling with issues that are related to the durability of the foldable phone. We should mention that considering that the smartphone is all screen, it has very few possibilities of surviving any drops. And according to Thomas, Xiaomi hasn’t found a way to tackle this issue yet. However, this is just one among the many issues that they need to solve before the foldable phone is launched and is made commercially available for customers. Speaking about the video posted by tipster Evan Blass, it shows Xiaomi’s foldable tablet cum phone being used by someone who them folds the screen on the right to turn it into a smaller device. It also showed that the UI of the device quickly adapts to the change. You can watch the leaked video and read about some speculated specifications of the upcoming device here.
